What exactly is gold-filled?

Gold-filled is a premium material consisting of a thick, permanent layer of solid gold (by law, at least 5% of the item's total weight) that is mechanically bonded to a core of sterling silver or brass. It is not a thin plating; it's a durable, heavyweight coating that makes the gold the dominant surface. Think of it like a "gold sandwich" where the gold is the substantial, lasting outer layer.

How is it different from gold-plated or vermeil?

Gold Filled: Has a gold layer that is 100x thicker than standard plating. It's highly durable, tarnish-resistant, and designed for a lifetime of daily wear.

• Gold Plated: Has a very thin layer of gold (less than 0.5% of weight) that can wear away relatively quickly with regular wear.

• Gold Vermeil: Is a specific type of heavy gold plating over sterling silver. While high-quality, the gold layer is still thinner than gold filled.

Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
